Course: A rolling out & back course (6.2 mile Run, 3.1 mile Walk) on a traffic free asphalt road through a beautiful mountain forest. Course is slightly hilly.
One of the area's oldest races, the Cooper's Rock Challenge began in the 1970's as a 5-mile event and was extended to a 10K distance in 1991. The race is traditionally run on the last Sunday in March to take advantage of the final weekend of spring that the forest is closed to vehicular traffic. Weather is often a factor, varying from mild & sunny to blustery with snow. The scenic course starts at the entrance to Cooper's Rock State Forest and follows the paved road to the overlook area where it winds a path through the picnic area before picking up the road again and returning to the finish line at the staging area. In addition to T-shirts, participants are treated to a bountiful cookie bar and refreshments prior to the post-race awards presentation.
