Registered runners may run with their dogs during the race. Dogs and their runners must start in the back. Dogs must be on a leash for the first mile and stay within eyesight of the runner for the WHOLE race. Special Award to the Top Dog!
Course
This 15k trail run is a challenging mix of single track mountainous trail and unimproved dirt road. The course includes two long climbs and several sections of rolling ridge lines. There are rocks, roots and wet stuff. Your "dogs" will get dirty!

Aid
Aid stations stocked with water (for humans and canines) and sport drink (humans only) will be located at mile 2.2, 4.7, 6.5 and the finish. A selection of fruit and baked goods (and dog treats) will replenish you at the finish.

Series
This event is part of Trail Runner Magazine's 2012 TROPHY SERIES. This series is a United States and Canada point series of over 120 selected trail races (from March 1 to September 30). All participants racing in the DIRTY DOG 15K TRAIL RUN will be automatically entered in the Trophy Series.

Camping Available ... 46 camping sites are available at Kanawha State Forest for $20 to $26 per site.
The Forest is located just 7-miles south of Charleston, WV. From I-64 in Charleston, take Exit 58A, drive south on US 119. Turn left onto Oakwood Rd. at the second stop light, (following the brown and white routing signs)go 3/4 mile and take a left before George Washington High School continuing on Oakwood Road, turn right onto Bridge Rd., and right onto Connell Rd. At the bottom of Connell, make a sharp left onto Kanawha Forest Drive, follow to the forest entrance.

The objective of the West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners (WVMTR) is to encourage running and the healthy, positive qualities running encompasses. They achieve this by holding a trail run series, races, non-competitive club runs, social events, assisting other organizations with running events, and in general just running around having fun. They are a non-profit organization and are affiliated with the Road Runners Club of America.
