The Durbin Days Back Road 5K footrace took runners and walkers on a Bartow backroad trek. Racers enjoyed great prizes under sunny blue skies. This hometown event set in the hills of West Virginia may be small in size, but it's big on character.

The tiny town of Durbin went all out to throw a day-long party that included a horseshoe tournament, 5k run and walk, an antique car show, crafts, a carnival with rides, train rides and an evening-ending fireworks display.

Things to do in the area:

  • Visit the Gaudineer Knob Overlook of Shavers Mountain in Randolph/Pocahontas Counties. Located about 5.5 miles from Durbin, West Virginia, travel west from Durbin on US 250 for 4 miles to Forest Service Road 27, then north on Forest Service Road 27 for 1.5 miles to the area. The Scenic Area is in the headwaters of Glade Run and Old Road Run, tributaries of Shavers Fork of Cheat River and West Fork of Greenbrier River, respectively.

  • Ride the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad. Enjoy the vastness and seclusion of the breathtaking landscapes as you ride the Durbin Rocket right out of Durbin, or the Cheat Mountain Salamander which takes you to High Falls. For additional information phone 1-877-686-7245.
