Who was Bobby Hampton?
Bobby Hampton was a native of Boone County and an employee of the coal industry for more than 35 years. Bobby lost a brave battle to leukemia in August 2003. The race began in 2004 in memory of Bobby with all proceeds going to leukemia research. The inaugural race was a huge success with approximately 200 participants and raising $5000 for the cause. Since it's inception, over 30,000 has been raised for causes such as the Amelia Setser Fund and the Bone Marrow Donor Program.
Proceeds benefit KaBoom, a non-profit organization that builds playgrounds in areas of need. Following this year's race, a playground will be constructed to benefit the Madison community.
