Racers crowd the start line
Prize money always seems to attract fast runners. This year's September Stride 5K was dominated by former track stars all vying for the top three male and female spots to earn cash prizes.

Jay Dolmage set his sights on Mike Dudley's 1997 course record of 15:11.

Referred to as a "Morgantown genius" on a local run blog, 30-year old Dolmage is a well-known runner in the Mo-town scene. The English professor at West Virginia University (WVU) was in the press most recently for his 2nd place overall finish in the 2007 Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race (10K). The race had more than 10,300 competitors. On this day Dolmage dominated the field finishing the 5K in 15:38 for the overall win, but did not beat the course record.

In second (17:13) was 24-year old Travis Cyphert of Morgantown, WV. A former member of the Men's Track & Field Team at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Cyphert's top performance was at the 2007 Bison Open Indoor when he finished first in the Men's Mile with a time of 4:36.37.

Heather Parks... still turning heads
Seth Crislip, a former runner for Emory University, trailed Cyphert by 7-seconds to claim third with a time of 17:20.

Another former track star (WVU), Heather Parks, also dominated. She finished as the first woman with a time of 18:39 which also earner her 7th overall. Parks is sponsored by Saucony and iPlayOutside.com.

Also a WVU runner, Nicole Dorinzi, claimed 2nd for the women (19:46). Annie Schuerger, formerly of West Virginia Wesleyan College, took home third place with a time of 20:25.

After the 5K was over, the kids took center stage. Running in heats according to age, everyone cheered as the little ones enjoyed their fun run.

The September Stride benefits the Richard Rosenbaum Memorial Fund, which provides medication and equipment to children with cystic fibrosis and other pulmonary problems.
