Fun in the sun on the trail
The former Brew Pub Twilight Run has been the Jim Dunn Memorial Scholarship Twilight 5-Miler since 2007. Held in honor of Jim Dunn, a well-known Morgantown local and Special Olympics' coach.

Over 280 runners took on the 5-mile, mostly rail-trail paved course. Walkers enjoyed the 2-mile flat trail towards the dam and a Family Fun Walk was available for those with young ones.

Overalls and Scholarship Winner

The first runner to hit the finish was Chris Cole of Morgantown. A top University High runner, Cole is ranked #1 in the WV High School Track & Field Top 10 for the 1,600 Meter event. Cole won the 5 mile race with a time of 27:12.05.

Ron Weist of Fairmont was not competing for the scholarship, but he was in it for the overall win. He took home second (27:16.38). Last year's scholarship winner, Eric Frohnapfel of Marshall University, claimed third in 27:20.73.

Two WV runners, Jennifer Davis and Heather Parks, battled for the first overall female spot. Davis won in the end with a time of 29:52.05. Parks kept it close by finishing second with a time of 30:34.37. Karly Hamric, also of WV, took home third with a time of 33:33.62.

MAGP Endurance Points Leaders

Jim Banks has a commanding lead in the overall men's MAGP Endurance Points Series with 533 points. Sue Heavner is holding off Cindy Goodwin by 40 points in the overall race. With three races to go, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Don't miss the next MAGP Endurance Series race August 3rd, it's Gene's Run For Special Olympics (#7).

Post-Race Fun

BB&T Bank is the main race sponsor along with Oliverio's Ristorante who provided an amazing dinner. This year, prize glass vases were awarded provided by First United Bank. Dallas Reese from WKKW entertained at registration and dinner along side of the "Dale Sparks Collection" on display for the racers to enjoy with items for sale.

Everyone enjoyed the summer evening along the waterfront. Legal beverages and a full spread of chicken, pasta, salad and breadsticks were provided. Participants of the Family Fun Walk received "Dunn Dollars" worth a 25% discount at Wings Ole' and may enjoy the BOPARC movie "Unaccompanied Minors" at Hazel Ruby McQuain Amphitheater at dusk.
